24 teams will compete to become a champion on this 4-yearly event. After successful first tournament with 24 teams in 2016, UEFA decide to keep the number of teams to compete for the Euro trophy again. But, this time it will be hosted in 12 countries. And, that is the first time. By spreading the hosts, UEFA try to get as much viewers as possible from all around European countries. 7 hosts already have their representative in this tournament, those are Denmark, Netherlands, England, Germany, Italy, Russia and Spain. There are possibilities of 4 more hosts that will join them through playoff matches. Those 4 are Republic of Ireland, Romania, Scotland and Hungary. Their destiny will be determined in March.
Portugal, the reigning champion, don’t have a privilege as one of those hosts. And their path to defend its title will be harder since they are placed in Group F with France (2016 finalist) and Germany (2016 semifinalist). But, don’t worry. Even if Portugal falls to the 3rd place, they still can advance to the knock out round by becoming 1 of 4 3rd-best place team. There are 16 spots available in the knock out rounds.
